Winter Warmup Tropical Mah Jongg ’26

Winter Warmup Tropical Mah Jongg ’26

The evening of January 16 might have been dark and cold, but 56 warm-hearted supporters of the Nelson County Community Fund (NCCF) turned out to enjoy a tropically-themed Mah Jongg party organized by super volunteers Suzzane McQueen and Lena Kroll.

Participants, many dressed in appropriately themed costumes, played a couple rounds of Mah Jongg with frequent visits to nearby tables for delicious nibbles and drinks. Each of the 14 game tables was decorated by the participants to capture the fun and spirit of the fundraising event, and awards were given for the most creative decorations.

NCCF President, Ken Heise, thanked both the organizers and participants for coming out in support of NCCF, whose mission is to raise funds to address humanitarian needs and opportunities in Nelson County. The party was both fun and successful, raising $3,500.

Attendees donned springtime attire, including hats and fascinators, adding a splash of color and elegance despite the grey, drizzly weather.

Guests enjoyed a delightful spread of food, tea, and bubbly from Valley Road Vineyards, along with a special preview of the much-anticipated Beltie’s Biscuits, soon to open on Route 151 in Nellysford. Service was graciously provided by community members, including NCCF Board members and President Ken Heise.

It’s inspiring to see so many come together for such a worthy cause.” Lena Kroll added, “The participation and generosity of local businesses have been incredible. Even the rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of our attendees, who brought warmth and joy to the day.”

This successful fundraiser highlights the strong community spirit and commitment to supporting Nelson County through the Nelson County Community Fund.
